If only it were obvious. If only every time someone liked you, they just wrote you a note, or got a friend to tell you, or hired skywriters to clue in the entire metropolitan area to their ooey, gooey, crushy feelings. But, generally, they don't.
So how can you solve the puzzle of another person's secret feelings? It's nowhere near an exact science. No single thing (short of skywriting) can tell you for sure. But take a look at some of these clues. If an overall picture of LIKElike starts to form as you read them, maybe you'll at least have an inkling of what's going on.
He/She tries to get your attention... on a regular:
Obviously, your admirer wants you to notice him or her, and so he or she might:
start hanging around you more
start calling, emailing, or IMing you suddenly
laugh really extra hard at your jokes
try to impress you, or pull stunts around you
suddenly show interests similar to yours, especially ones you didn't used to have in common
give you presents or compliments
tease you gently -- Note: Usually, an admirer won't tease you so much that your feelings are genuinely hurt.
He/She gets nervous around you:
If your admirer is kind of shy, their crush might show up when they:
smile and/or blush when you look at them
spill stuff, trip, or bump into things when you walk by
get really, really, almost eerily quiet around you
seem to be taking some good-natured heat from their friends when you're around... nudges and the like.
He/She uses the Likey kind of body language with you:
Supposedly, this is the kind of stuff we all do subconsciously around people we'd like to know better -- but it's not an exact science. Someone who's into you might:
rub or touch their own hair around you
cross their legs toward you
straighten their clothing when you're near
subtly mimic your movements (like, you lean forward, and a few seconds later they lean forward, too)
He/She goes into full-on flirt mode:
Keep in mind that some people are just natural flirts, and they do this kind of stuff with practically everyone they know. It still might mean they like you, but it might not mean they like ONLY you. But other people will only act like this around a crush. A flirter might:
not pull away, or might even nudge closer, when you sit next to each other
touch your shoulders or knees when talking to you -- even give you playful punches
make longer-than-usual eye contact with you, or even stare at you
smile a lot when you're talking to each other
do bizarre stuff like exchange glasses with you, or trade watches with you, or tie your shoe -- things that involve chances to touch you.
