now it's a touchy topic. I don't particularly like to revive old bitter memories, but what with maturing let's try and, as they say in science, probe this.
i think one of the main roots of racism is, of course, upbringing.
what do your parents tell you about other ethnicities? growing up, what kind of stereotypes were you exposed to? did you find yourself believing in any of them? even worse, were you one of the ones who spread them around? pestilence, pestilence!
some of the ones i remember (i bolded the ones that are reliable)
- Koreans have squinty as hell eyes (well, I don't, for one)
- Japanese have slanted eyes, as do Chinese
- Many Chinese attended Harvard, Yale, etc
- Asians are yellow
- Asians have yelloe skin, slanted eyes, black hair (not near the Mongolia-China-Russia border -- I see blue-eyed Chinese sometimes)
- Asians have flat noses
- Asians are ugly
- Asians are smart
- Chinese are smart
- All Chinamen practice kung fu/martial arts
- Asians look the same
- Koreans are the best-looking Asians with pale skin and Caucasian features (uh, roughly 70% of Korean females are bleaching themselves or are plastic girls)
- everything came from China
- Asians are conservative but unruly when it comes to gambling (they would risk losing their house or more)
- Stephen Chow is China's Jim Carrey
