Tanning
Personally, I don't care much for a tan. I tan naturally but I usually remain out of the sun because I look bad when I'm really dark. Anyways, I know a lot of people do. The best way to tan is by doing it yourself. By this, I mean you have to buy a self-tanner. Just follow these steps. FIRST, exfoliate. Create your own sugar scrub or buy one from Bath and Body works. You'll also want to shave before. If you shave after, it will reduce the tint on your legs. Be sure to use your scrub all over your body, EXCEPT your face. Massage in circular motions for the best result. Check your shaving job. You want as close a shave as possible. If you wax, wait 2-3 hours before moving on to the next step. SECOND, tan! Invest in a quality self tanner. The best ones are: Bain-de-soleil, Radience Eternal and Coppertone Endless Summer. Put on a pair of tight fitting gloves and apply the self tanner all over your body EXCEPT your elbows, knees, hands and feet- save those for last. Carefully rub tanner in these areas after you've finished the rest of your body. Let it dry for at least 20 minutes before putting on clothes. Do not do an physical activity or get wet for 2-3 hours. Buy a special self-tanner for your face (works best if you purchase same brand as you used on the rest of your body) and follow instructions carefully. THIRD, moisturize! Keep your skin hydrated so the tan will last longer and look better. Moisturize at least once a day and repeat as often as needed to keep your tan looking great.
Sunburn
So you stayed too long in the sun and now your skin is as red as a tomato and hurts to touch. Sound familiar? You've got a sunburn. The best way to get rid of the pain is to rub some aleo vera gel on the red areas. Also, 2-3 drops of lavender essential oil mixed with a small amount of chemical-free lotion will get rid of the hot, buring pain. Keep applying the gel and for the next week stay out of the sun. When you do go out in the sun, make sure you wear sunscreen because if you keep it up, you'll get wrinkles and maybe even skin cancer.
Perspiration
Do you sweat a lot no matter how my deodorant you put on? There are some people that have this problem. Make sure your using an anti-perspirant deodorant and make sure you shave under your arms. Still a problem? Use rubbing alcohol and then dust it with baby powder. Sounds crazy but it works. If nothing works, see a Derm, there is a special kind of deodorant you can use, and also a pill you can take orally that reduces sweat.
Shaving
When shaving make sure you have a good shaving cream or a good shower gel. You should only shave your legs, underarms and your bikini line. Invest in a good rasor that will remove all the hair. I recommend Venus from Gilette. A lot of girls make the mistake that you HAVE to shave. If you have blonde, barely there hair on your legs, then don't bother! Shaving is a pain, and if you can't see any hair on your legs then don't. After you finish shaving your legs, it's good to moisturize because shaving cream or shower gel can make your legs dry. Try to shave under your arms at least every 2 days, your legs once every 2 weeks and your bikini line once a week if possible.
Scars
Everyone has one or two. You can prevent scars by not picking at zits but the ones you got from the chicken pox are past your control. On your face, or anywhere else on your body that has scars, Mederma (mederma.com, sold at drugstores) is recommended by dermatolgists and me as an excellent product. To remove darkened acne scars, use a mixture of turmeric in coconut oil on the affected parts. Effects can be seen within a week or two. And always use Polysporin (not Neosporin) on cuts of anything that looks remotely yucky.
